US Open

The fourth tournament in the Grand Slam series of the season. The American major traditionally takes place in late August and early September. The matches are played on hard courts at the tennis stadiums of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The main arenas of the tournament are Arthur Ashe Stadium and the Louis Armstrong Arena. The first US Open tennis championship was held in 1881. Today, the US Open remains the only Grand Slam tournament whose matches have been held on three different surfaces over the years: grass (from 1881 to 1974), clay (from 1975 to 1977), and hardcourt (from 1978 to the present).
