"We need to try something new." Khachanov told why he part ways with the coach

Karen Khachanov announced that he will continue to work on the tour without a coach, with whom he has spent almost his entire career. Vedran Martic has left the headquarters of the Russian tennis player. And Karen himself exclusively told First&Red why he made such a difficult decision.

Vedran and I have the warmest possible relationship. He is one of my first coaches, with whom I started my career at the age of 15. At some point, we stopped cooperating for 2 years, then for 3, but in fact he guided me for 10 years. He held a very high position. To be honest, we both came to the conclusion that we probably need to move on and try something new. I don't know about him yet, whether he will be on tour or not, he will probably stay at home with his family for a while, but in any case he remains my close friend, you can say, a part of my family. A friend who will support me all the time, keep an eye on me and, I think, attend some, maybe even matches, tournaments — we'll see.
  • Khachanov and Martic started working when Karen was 15 years old.
  • Together with the Croatian specialist, Karen won the Paris Masters in 2018 and made it to three semifinals of Grand Slam tournaments — the US Open-2022, the Australian Open-2023 and the US Open-2026.
